R2 recycling in the Netherlands and Europe

R2 recycling in the Netherlands and Europe is available at Huiskes, together with R2 certified ITAD services (IT Asset Disposition). Especially for American companies with a Dutch or European branch office we have a subsidiary that meets R2 (R2v3) certification requirements for electronics (IT) recycling and reverse logistics. This eliminates the need for these waste streams to be recycled in the United States (USA). We are also highly experienced in the intensive audit processes required for certification.

What is R2 recycling?

R2 stands for Responsible Recycling and is a globally recognized standard that promotes environmentally sound electronics (e-waste) recycling. To qualify for certification, companies that process electronic equipment and components have to meet strict requirements to maximize reuse of valuable and costly materials and minimize harmful environmental impacts. In short, it seeks to ensure sustainable recycling with the priority on reuse.

The R2 standard focuses on secure electronics recycling, data destruction and reuse of IT assets and responsible electronic waste management. R2-certified companies adhere to rigorous environmental, safety and labor standards that support a sustainable circular economy. The primary objective of these standards is to ensure the development of and compliance with policies for responsible management of used and end-of-life electronic equipment, components and materials. Recovered materials can then be used in the manufacture of new products as much as possible.

Our R2 recycling also covers reverse logistics when goods are returned from the end consumer to the manufacturer or supplier. This may be because goods have been recalled. Or products may be obsolete or defective and in need of repair.

Benefits of R2 certification

In the Netherlands and Europe R2 and e-Stewards certification is primarily relevant to American companies that must meet these standards. Its mostly electronic waste generated by IT companies. This means that secure data destruction is also a key concern. To meet this need, Huiskes destroys (shreds) the entire data-bearing device, together with all the data it contains, as prescribed by R2v3.
On completion of the process, we issue a Certificate Of Destruction (COD) confirming that the products were discreetly destroyed strictly in accordance with the conditions.

The areas in which international companies benefit from R2 recycling include:

  • Sustainability & environmental stewardship: Companies that meet this standard demonstrate their commitment to responsible processing of electronic waste streams and supporting environmentally friendly recycling.
  • Stakeholder trust and market position: Customers, governments and partners are placing increasing importance on corporate responsibility and sustainability. R2 certification can help companies build confidence in their performance in these areas and gain competitive advantages.
  • Regulatory compliance: The processing of electronic waste streams is now governed by strict regulations in an increasing number of countries. R2 certification ensures that companies comply with international environmental standards.
  • Improved reuse and cost efficiency: Advanced recycling and reuse processes allow companies to make more effective use of raw materials and reduce their waste treatment costs. This reduces reliance on virgin materials.

e-Stewards certification

The e-Stewards certification is a globally recognized standard for responsible electronic waste management. Certified companies adhere to strict environmental and ethical standards when processing electronic waste streams. This is especially relevant for companies that recycle, reuse or destroy electronics. Key aspects of e-Stewards certification include environmental responsibility, secure data management, no export of hazardous electronic wastes to developing countries, social responsibility and legal and regulatory compliance.
