About us - HUISKES

A FAMILY BUSINESS SINCE 1936

Huiskes has been involved in the reuse of waste materials since 1936. In the meantime, Huiskes has acquired extensive knowledge of metals and the global market.

Four generations of Huiskes

The company was founded by Bertus Huiskes. He set up a wholesale business in a warehouse in the Dutch city of ‘s-Hertogenbosch, where he began collecting metals, rags, skins and paper. Each consecutive generation of Huiskes lent further depth to the recycling company. Bertus’ son Rikus focused more on metals, serving the industrial sector in ‘s-Hertogenbosch in particular. The company acquired an international reputation. This was achieved by Bertus, the founder’s grandson. He opened a branch of the firm in Italy in the 1990s, and one in China in 2003. The fourth generation is currently at the helm. Siblings Dirk and Koen have given a huge boost to the recycling of electronics and electrical appliances.

Change of name

Huiskes operated under the name Huiskes Metaal for over 80 years. Further expansion of its services prompted the company to simplify its name to Huiskes in 2018. Huiskes remains a specialist in the field of collecting, processing, recycling and marketing electronic equipment and scrap metals. Its primary focus is the optimal recycling of materials and a significant returns for both customer and supplier.

Environment and certification

We also continuously focus on managing and improving our environmental performance. Our process of collection, storage, transport, processing, recycling and reuse of electrical appliances is WEEELABEX certified.

European legislation

The WEEELABEX standards are designed to ensure that:

  • Discarded devices are processed and disposed of effectively and appropriately.
  • The products of recycling are of high quality, and this quality is continually improved.
  • Public health, safety and the environment are protected.
  • There are no cross-border shipments of waste appliances to non-certified parties.
  • There is fair competition among all economic operators in the equipment waste chain.

ISO certification

We comply with all statutory regulations and are ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 accredited. We also have the MRF quality mark, a guarantee of professionalism and quality for metal recyclers.

CORPORATE SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY

Huiskes is a leader in sustainable recycling and CO² reduction for secondary materials. We strive to segregate and process materials using clean technologies. We do so with respect for both people and the environment. This enables us to achieve the maximum recovery of metals.

CO2 reduction

The boundaries in the market in which Huiskes operates are becoming increasingly blurred. The supply lines are global, as is the sales market. We do our utmost to ensure our transports as sustainable as possible. We also compile an annual CO² reduction report for all customers. Our objective in doing so is to motivate customers to participate in a closed cycle of scarce materials and, by extension, a sustainable society.

Sheltered workshops

Apart from sustainability, corporate social responsibility is among the major motives for our business operations. While we have our own staff to carry out disassembly work, we also cooperate with sheltered workshops and prisons. We believe it is important that people who are distanced from the labour market should also be given opportunities to make themselves useful to society.
